Secondary school (Years 7 to 11)
The educational aim of our school is to enable all students to become well-rounded individuals with the personal qualities and academic qualifications necessary for building successful and fulfilling lives and to ensure that every pupil has access to a core of knowledge and cultural experience that is the basis for progress in learning and personal development.
Key Stage 3
The curriculum is the central framework supporting this aim.
The British International School in Ukraine provides a curriculum in line with the English National Curriculum Key Stage 3 from Years 7 – 9. During these years students will be expected to study English, Maths, Science, Geography, History, ICT, Foreign Language (French, German or Russian), Music, PE, Art and PSHE. Children studying the Ukrainian Atestat will not study International History, PSHE and Study Skills.
Key Stage 4
At the end of Year 9 pupils are assessed using the Cambridge Checkpoint exams in English, Math and Science. These allow teachers and parents to assess a student’s readiness for Key Stage 4 and the IGCSE examinations.
In years 10 and 11 (Key Stage 4) students are prepared for the Cambridge IGCSE exams. English language, English literature, Math, Science, Geography or History, ICT and Foreign Language (French, German or Russian) are all compulsory subjects for all children at IGCSE.
In addition to this, and depending on whether students are following the full International or Dual Curriculum program students can opt to take IGCSE Exams in, Drama or PE, Music and/or Art and for International program students only Business Studies.
